EE5410 Signal Procesing -- z-transform : zeros and poles

if we consider H(z) as a function of z over the entire complex z-plane, the ROOT of the numerator is a ZERO of the function H(z)

Recall that the ROOT of the denominator is a location in the z-plane where the function H(z) blows up ( ie., undefined). So this location is called the POLE of the system function H(z).
