1. Such interests include not only those dictated by personal needs and volitions, but also those which arises out of personal beliefs and convictions ( 信念) ( or least out of personal conjectures and opinions ) -- provided, of course, that the desire to reflect, to analyse, and to think rationally is already awake.
2. Under these conditions, people also expect that the cause for which they are supposed to act should appeal to them personally, and at all events, that they should be able to enter into it with the backing of their own opinions and convictions regarding its goodness, justice, utility, the reward they hope to reap from it, and so on.
3. (有 say 有 their OWN way ) This moment, is particularly applicable to our own age, in which people are much less inclined to accept things an trust or on the strength of external authority and wish to act in support only of those causes to which they can assent with their own understanding and their independent convictions and opinions.

5. 據說, 社會安定就是瓦解的開始。歷史在在說明, 新的挑戰會培養出眾多優秀的人才。
