steps:
in the linux shell...

1. gzip -d 4.4BSD-Lite2.tar.gz
2. tar xvf 4.4BSD-Lite2.tar
3. Done. use gedit to browse

In Windows, you cannot unzip it by just using winzip. Instead, download "gzip" from http://www.gzip.org.
