German : modal verbs

Normally, in their auxiliary function, they use the infinitive form for past participle.

compare :

1. Er kann es getan haben. ( He may have done it.)
vs
Er hat es tun können. (He has been able to to it.)

2. Er muss es getan haben. (He must have done it.)
vs
Er hat es tun müssen. (He has had to do it.)

3. Er soll es getan haben. (He is said to have done it.)
vs
Er hat es tun sollen. (He was supposed to do it.)

4.Er will es getan haben. (He claims to have done it.)
vs
Er hat es tun wollen. (He meant to have done it.)

5. Er mag es getan haben. (He may have done it.)
vs
Er hat es nicht tun mögen. (He didn't lioke to do it.)
