1. Gray-scale image smoothing can be viewed as a spatial filtering operation in which the coefficients of the filtering mask have the SAME value.
As the mask is slid across the image to be smoothed, each pixel is replaced by the average of the pixels in the neighborhood defined by the mask.
2. For colour image, instead of scalar intensity values we must deal with component vectors.
