German : alle (all) followed by adj

German : alle (all) followed by adj

1. A demostrative or possessive adjective after alle will have the SAME ending as alle, but any other adjective will have the " -en".

eg.

Nominative : alle seine alten Freunde
Accusative : alle seine alten Freunde
Genative : aller seiner alten Freunde
Dative : allen seinen alten Freunden

2. When alles (everything ) is followed by an adjective used as noun, the adjective will have a WEAK ending.

This is not the same as adjectives followed by etwas (somthing), nichts ( nothing), viel (much) and weing (little) which use STRONG declension.

eg.

Wir wünschen dir alles Gute!
(We wish you all the best!)

Wir werden alles Mögliche versuchen.
(We shall try everything possible.)

EE4206/EE5806 Digital Image Processing : 2D Fourier Series

EE4206/EE5806 Digital Image Processing : 2D Fourier Series for periodic signals with two independent variables.

A signal x(t1,t2) that satisfies the equation :

x(t1,t2) = x(t1 +T1, t2 +T2), for all t1, t2.

This signal is periodic with period T1 in the t1 direction and with period T2 in the t2 direction.
w1 = 2PI/T1 and w2 = 2PI/T2

EE5410 Discrete-time filter : periodic with period 2*PI

EE5410 Discrete-time filter : periodic with period 2*PI

1. For discrete-time filters, the frequency response H(e^jw) MUST be periodic with period 2*PI, with LOW frequencies near EVEN multiples of PI and HIGH frequencies near ODD multiples of PI.

2. Frequency-selective filtering is accomplished through the use of LTI systems described by linear constant-coefficient differential or difference equations.

3. Frequency-selective filters are a class of filters specially intended to accurately or approximately SELECT some bands of frequencies and REJECT others.

4. For ideal continuous-time highpass and bandpass filters, each of these filters is SYMMETRIC about w=0, and thus, there appear to be two passbands for the highpass and bandpass filters.

"It was only last week that Google acquired SayNow, a voice messaging startup, They’re already putting them to good use. I mean really good use.

As they’ve just announced on the Google Blog, the search giant has teamed up with the incoming SayNow team and Twitter to create a simple speak-to-tweet service for people currently engulfed in the turmoil in Egypt."

German : adjective as noun

German : adjective as noun
excerpted from Norman Paxton's German Grammar, ch. 6, page 30-31.

1. Any adjective may be used as noun, in which case it will be written with a Capital letter.

2. it will follow the WEAK, MIXED or STRONG declension according to whether iti s PRECEDED by a " der word", a " mein word", or neither.

3. In other words, it will decline exactly as though it were an adjective FOLLOWED by a noun -- in many cases there could be said to be the word Mann or Frau understood, which overrides the rule that other pars of speech when used as nouns are always NEUTER.

eg

Der Fremde sagte nichts.

Ein Fremder steht draußen.

Ich habe Verwandte zu Besuch.

Sie ist eine alte Bekannte von uns.

Wir ehren das Gute, das Wahre und das Schöne.

4. A particularly frequent use of the adjective as a noun is AFTER etwas( something), nichts ( nothing), viel( much) and wenig ( little).
Adjectives following these words follow the STRONG declension (having no " der word" or " mein word" ).

eg.

Ich brauche etwas Kaltes zu trinken.

Ich habe nichts Neues dort gefunden.

Ich habe viel Gutes vom ihm gehört.

Er hat wenig Interessantes zu sagen.

EE5410 Signal Processing Filter terminology

E5410 Filter terminology

1. A lowpass filter is a filter that passes low frequencies -- ie., frequencies around w=0 -- and attenuates or rejects higher frequencies.

2. A high pass filter is a filter that passes high frequencies and attenuates frequencies or rejects low ones.

3. A bandpass filter is a filter that passes a band of frequencies and attenuates frequencies BOTH higher and lower than those in the band that is passed.

4. In each case, the cutoff frequencies are the frequencies defining the boundaries between frequencies that are PASSED and frequencies that are REJECTED -- ie., the frequencies in the passband and stopband.

EE4206/EE5806 Image processing : Differentiating filters

EE4206/EE5806 Image processing : Differentiating filters

1. A black-and-white picture can be thought of as a two-dimensional "continuous time" signal x(t1,t2), where t1 ad t2 are the horizontal and vertical coordinates, respectively, and x(t1,t2) is the BRIGHTNESS of the image.

2. If the image is repeated periodically in the horizontal and vertical directions, then it can be represented by a two-dimensional Fourier series consisting of SUMS of products of complex exponentials, e^(jw1t1) and e^(jw2t2),

that oscillate at possibly different frequencies in each of the two coordinate directions.

3. SLOW variations in brightness in a particular direction are represented by the LOWER harmonics in that direction. For example, consider an edge corresponding to a sharp transition in brightness that runs vertically in an image.

4. Since the brightness is constant or slowly varying ALONG the edge, the frequency content of the edge in the vertical direction is concentrated at low frequencies.

5. In contrast, since there is an ABRUPT variation in brightness ACROSS the edge, the frequency content of the edge in the horizontal direction is concentrated at higher frequencies.
