革命的本質
主體的革命理論嶄新地闡明了革命的本質。
革命，本質上是維護和實現人民群眾的自主性的有組織的鬥爭。
擺脫各種形式的奴役和拘束，自主地生活和發展，這是人民群眾的本質要求。人民群眾為了維護和實現人民群眾的自主性進行革命鬥爭。
民族解放鬥爭是清算帝國主義的殖民統治，恢復國家和民族主權的鬥爭；人民民主革命是為清算帝國主義走狗和封建勢力，建立人民民主制度，人民群眾做國家主人而進行的鬥爭。
社會主義革命是最終清算人對人的剝削、階級對階級的壓迫，在社會政治上實現人民群眾自主性的鬥爭。
社會主義制度建立以後，人民群眾繼續進行革命，其目的在於維護在社會政治上已爭取的自主性，並擺脫剝削社會遺留下來的一切遺物的拘束，從而完全實現自己的自主性。
革命是有組織性的鬥爭，意味著人民群眾團結在受到党和領袖的領導的組織裡，在它的統一領導下進行的鬥爭。
在剝削社會裡，反動的社會勢力利用一切手段和方法阻止人民群眾爭取自主性的鬥爭。要粉碎反革命勢力的陰謀活動，人民群眾就要團結成為一個政治力量，進行有組織的鬥爭。通過個人恐怖或小規模的分散性的鬥爭等非組織性的、自發性的鬥爭，就不能消除舊的、反動的東西，不能創造新制度、新社會。
改造和變革從歷史上形成的舊的思想文化和自然的鬥爭也一樣。通過幾個人的自發性的鬥爭決不能勝利克服在社會生活的所有領域遺留下來的舊的思想和文化以及落後的技術。只有依靠在全社會上組織化的人民群眾，才能清算舊社會的遺物，創造出新的思想、技術和文化。
爭取人民群眾的自主事業、社會主義事業的鬥爭，是從組織思想上緊密團結在党和領袖周圍的人民群眾進行的最高形式的有組織的鬥爭。
革命包含著兩個內容。一是推翻舊社會制度，建立新社會制度，另一個是在思想、技術、文化領域革故鼎新。推翻舊社會制度，建立新社會制度的革命和在思想、技術、文化領域革故鼎新的革命，其內容和鬥爭物件、其進行方式和方法、進行時間有差別。
先前理論以唯物史觀原理為基礎，以為解決生產力和生產關係的矛盾，把舊的社會制度替換為新的社會制度的社會變革才是革命。但由於主體的革命理論以人民群眾為中心嶄新地闡明革命的本質，從而克服了先前理論的片面性和局限性，為革命的本質和內容做出了全面的解釋。

社會歷史運動是人民群眾的自主的運動
主體思想闡明，社會歷史運動是人民群眾的自主的運動這一原理。
所謂社會歷史運動是人民群眾的自主的運動，就是意味著社會歷史運動是為了維護並實現人民群眾的自主性而他們自己開展的運動。換句話說，人民群眾為了擺脫一切奴役和束縛，作為世界和自己命運的主人生活和發展而開展的運動。
社會歷史運動因為以自主性為本質特點的人民群眾來開展，因此可謂人民群眾的自主的運動。人民群眾為改造社會，改造自然，改造人開展的一切鬥爭，都是為維護並實現人民群眾的自主性的鬥爭。
改造社會的鬥爭，是人民群眾為從階級的和民族的奴役中擺脫出來，過上自主的生活，而創造社會政治條件的鬥爭。
改造自然的鬥爭，是人民群眾為從自然的束縛中擺脫出來，過上自主的生活，而創造物質條件的鬥爭。
改造人的鬥爭，是人民群眾為從舊思想和舊文化的束縛中擺脫出來，過上自主的生活，而創造思想文化條件的鬥爭。
不管社會歷史運動多麼複雜多樣的形式開展，不管其過程由多種性質的事情組成，歸根結底都是改造自然、改造社會、改造人的鬥爭。因此，社會歷史運動是為維護並實現人民群眾的自主性的鬥爭。
維護人民群眾自主性的鬥爭根據社會發展階段，有先要解決的問題。
維護人民群眾自主性的鬥爭，根據歷史順序來進行：首先進行在社會政治方面實現自主性的社會改造，然後把自然改造和人的改造的任務提到前面並加以完成。
維護人民群眾自主性的鬥爭帶有國際性。
帝國主義勢力為了支配和掠奪別的國家和民族，為了扼殺人民群眾的革命鬥爭，在國際上聯合起來了。
因此，人民群眾反對帝國主義支配和壓迫，維護自主性的鬥爭，也不能不成為國際性的鬥爭。之所以維護人民群眾自主性的鬥爭帶有國際性，是因為世界被迫民族和人民的歷史處境和利害關係有共同點。
由於社會歷史運動是人民群眾的自主的運動，因此要維護人民群眾的自主性，就必須在革命和建設中堅持自主的立場。
自主的立場，是人民群眾按照自己獨立的判斷和決心去處理革命和建設中的問題，並靠自己的力量去解決的立場。
自主的立場表現在行使革命和建設的主人的權利、盡到主人的責任上。
由於主體思想闡明社會歷史運動是人民群眾的自主的運動這一原理，在人類思想史上首次擁有了思想理論武器 —— 人民群眾以自主性為基礎自主地開拓歷史和自己的命運。

Development and Enrichment of Juche Idea
Chairman Kim Jong Il explained that the Juche idea forms the quintessence of Kimilsungism and developed and enriched its constituent content with profound principles and propositions.
The part and parcel of the idea are man-centred philosophical and socio-historical principles, and guiding principles of revolution and construction.
Kim Jong Il newly raised the fundamental question of Juche philosophy with man at its centre and defined and systematized the basic principles of the idea and the essential nature of man in a scientific way. On the basis of this he clarified the Juche-oriented view, viewpoint and attitude towards the world.
By regarding man as the main factor, the Juche idea, for the first time in history, puts forward the relations between man and the world, the issue of the position and role of man in the world as the fundamental question of the philosophical world outlook and provides the unique man-centred philosophical principle that man is the master of everything and decides everything.
It clarifies in a scientific way that man is a social being with independence, creativity and consciousness, thus providing a complete philosophical explanation of the nature of man.
It also defines the Juche-oriented view towards the world that the world is dominated and transformed by man and the man-centred viewpoint and attitude which originates from the man’s interests and puts main stress on man’s activity.
Kim Jong Il, with man or popular masses at the centre, newly explained the nature of society and principle of motive force of history, and clarified Juche-oriented view, viewpoint and attitude towards socio-historical movement in a peculiar way, thus developing socio-historical principles of the Juche idea in depth.
In step with the development of the independent ideological consciousness and the creative ability of the man, social wealth is enriched and social relations are improved—this is the law of social development newly elucidated by the Juche idea.
Kim Jong Il systematized and developed the content of guiding principles of the Juche idea in every respect. The Juche idea newly explained that independent stand should be held fast, creative method be applied and main stress be put on ideology as the socio-historical movement is an independent, creative and conscious one of the masses, its motive force.
